Which route on a Vespa?

My wife and i are looking into crossing Africa, North to South, on two Vespas, starting in Tanger and ending in Cape Town. Due to our current life situation we are not able to travel at great lengths at a time (only 3-4 weeks). Because of this, we will ship our rides in/out at the beginning/end of each leg (For some idiotic reason it is important that we will be able to draw a connected red line accross a map once the trip is over). Because we are pressed for time, we will be going quite fast. We hope to be able to complete it in 3-4 legs, each one lasting no more than 4 weeks.

In planning, we have a challenge in choosing the starting and end points of each leg. Places where we with reasonable efficiency can ship our rides in/out (preferably by air).

So this is where we seek your advice. Which alternative route(s) should we choose (countries), and in which towns/cities should be the beginning/end of each leg (for a 3 or 4 leg trip)? Even though we want to choose a fast route, we are also concerned about safety and ease of travel. We would also appreciate any comments on these matters on alternative routes. In our plans it is important that we have some leaway to deal with any unplanned circumstances, and for time to sort things out with shipment and such. It would therefore be nice if the starting/end point was in a place, or close to a place, where one would not mind to stay more than a few days.

Oh yeah, Dakar is a must on our itinerary... for resons just as idiotic as wanting to be able to connect the dots on the map. I've read that Dakar is not the best of places to stay for Days at end. If this would be a Ntural end/starting point on

I've read people riding push bikes from Tanger to Dakar in two weeks and feeling they by no means were in a hurry, covering 150 km's a day, and about people walking accross africa in less than a year, leading me to think that my plans are reasonable.

Any comments appreciated...
