Hi all,
first a short introduction of myself, as this is the first post here. Living in Nigeria since >2 years, never rode a bike before, bought, ups, made my driving license here and started enyoing it. 12.000km in Nigeria till now, last trip to Ghana and back. Next year i"m intending to travel with my bike, a Suzi V-Strom, to Germany. After reading a few travel reports i'm still unsure about the possible route. The first idea was Ghana-Ivory coast - mali - mauretania -morocco. Current travel warnings are advising to bypass ivory coast as far as possible. Suddenly same for the other possibility, Niger-Mali-Mauritania. As well as to avoid Burkina-Faso, what would be the last idea. On one side I know these travel warnings (german foreign afair) not to be taken too serious, as they even advice to avoid Nigeria, what's anyhow not an opportunity . On the other side some truth is alwazs behind these warnings.What would be the best opportunity and how long will it approximately take, as the leave days are limited. I would say go for your first plan and as you get closer you can check the latest on Cd'I. If it is still not looking good divert through BF. There shouldn't be a problem there.

Hey, are you the guy that did some burnouts on a Vstrom last year at the Berger camp in PH on his birthday???
Anyway, we did Nigeria-Niger-Burkina Faso-Ghana-Togo-Benin-Nigeria March this year. You can do Yenegoa to Sokoto in 2 days (stop over at Kaduna). Sokoto Niamey (Niger) in a day and Niamey Ouaga in one day. We could have passed thru the Ivory Coast (better start calling it Cote de Voire) but we listened to all the war stories and did not. At Burkina, there were several buses leaving for Ivory Coast towns so it does not look so bad. Have fun
