Where to get visas heading north?

Hi all,
Well, we have made it to Cape Town via the east coast and are now considering driving up the west coast. Having trawled the Hubb for a while all information on getting the visas seems to be heading north to south. We are after some recent info heading north, anyone out there recently travelled north or read of a blog of someone?

Primarily we are interested in costs of visa, where the visa was obtained, and if any are possibly obtained at borders. We are on Australian passports, and currently trying for the Angolan visas as we are aware of needing to get this here if possible. We are also posting this on sub-Saharan branch so apologies if you are reading it twice, but don't want to miss out on overlanders further south...

Thanks all!
Mark and Allison

Hey M&A,

It's failry straightforward heading north once the problem visas are figured out, get your Angola visa there and the next 2-3 in Luanda when you get there. The approximate going rate seems to be $100 USD for each visa and $150 for "express" service. You can get a couple at borders, but if you have the time you can get them in capital cities a country or two ahead. I'll send you a pm, please feel free to ask if you have any questions about route, etc. Happy travels.

I have the chance to join some guys going back from the Budapest Bamako rally, straight home... for free... better than a 500 euro flight. My only worry is that visa but I will figure it out.

Cheers!

In case it helps someone... the lady at the Senegalese Embassy here in Bamako said that I wouldn't get the visa on the border... but she was kind enough to arrange that I can pick it up today at 7pm. It cost 15k CFA, I asked for a 3 day transit permit only.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
