Western Tanzania safety

Hello all, is there anyone who knows up to date info about safety in western Tanzania?
I'm planning to cross the Rwanda-Tanzania border at Rutindo border crossing, to go toward Mwanza in the south of Victoria Lake. About this area I've read contrasting infos, so I ask if someone has recent news.
On Tracks4Africa maps, on the roads arriving to this area from Uganda I even read "armed escort"...

About road conditions: could anyone confirm that today from Rwanda to Mwanza and then north is all tarred road, as it seems from Tracks4Africa maps?

3 years ago I already asked something similar, but finally I focused my trip on Uganda: great trip, but I wouldn't leave a dream uncomplete...

Thank you for your help,

Mirco

Haven't heard of any problems there.Friends travelled South from Kigoma to Katavi NP and on to Sumbawanga about 2 months ago.The Chinese are tarring the road North from Sumbawanga so rebels there unlikely. I did it 4 years ago and no hassle.Even ended up driving til 2300 one night into Muvinsa.

If I've understood correctly you mean you want to loop round the bottom of Lake Victoria? Not go South as Atlas is suggesting?

If so we did that route in 2011. It was fine. Some road rebuilding and the odd diversion but T4A was good enough to get you there with a few minor stumbles. Make sure you get the ferry across the very southern tip of the Lake (about 30 mins) as following the road is many km further.
