Wadi Halfa to Dongola

I would like to know if it's possible to ride a BMW 1200 GS from Wadi Halfa to Dongola. How long are the sand stretches?

Yes it's possible; a lot of people have done it.
I don't remember how long the sandy stretches are, and I guess it might change.

Personally I found the sandy stretches nice, it’s variation from the normal corrugation.

I'm at Jungle Junction in Nairobi. Just had a conversation with an Italian did that road recently on a BMW PD.

No problem. The road has really been improved from a year ago - construction/rebuilding work has moved along well. Not to worry.

Its the road from Ethiopia down to Isiolo that you have to worry about - a real suspension/tire killer.

Sounds interesting.

Do you remember the name of the Italian guy?
Maybe Lapo?
A tall man from tuscany?
We spoke over the phone befor his leaving: I know he was going down to south Africa from Italy

Thanks
Roberto

No Lapo. There were actually 3 Italians on bikes a couple weeks ago (Fiorens, Juliano, and Raffaele). Don't remember exactly where they were from.

I've enjoyed your journal (web-site) but it doesn't seem to have an African link. Will you be updating? I hope so.
