Wadi Halfa - Aswan Ferry (again) - Useful website

I have been looking into this as we plan to cross south to north in a couple of months time.

I came across this website (seems to be run by Mr Salah of the Nile River Company) and thought others may find it of interest. It posts current prices, schedules etc.

takourny

I'd be interested to hear from anyone whose made the crossing from the Sudan side recently. How was it? Did you use Magdi? What does he charge now? Does anyone have recent contact details - most of the ones I've found on the forum seem to be quite old.

Also does anyone know if the schedules are affected by Ramadan - particularly Eid, as we may well be there around that time. Is there any likelihood of cancellations due to the holiday - or is it just likely to be very busy?

We took the ferry a couple of months ago. For 2 people sleeping on the deck (2nd class) of the passenger boat and a Landcruiser on the barge we paid US$425 to Magdi. We shared the barge with 3 other overlander vehicles. On the Egypt side we paid US$25 to the fixer (I think his name was Kamal). Both fixers I feel made things much easier for us and I'd recommend using them.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
