Sudan Visas

Hi guys,

Wondering if anyone has recently acquired a Sudanese visa from either Tripoli or Cairo? Basically there is an 8week delay to get the visa in London, but we hoped to leave in 3 weeks (arriving in Sudan in approx 3weeks later). We didn't apply for the visa a long time ago as we weren't sure of our leaving date and didn't want to pick a date out of the sky for the application.
Some people suggest it is impossible to get this visa in either of these cities, but others say it is a doddle - can anyone enlighten us a little as we are a bit confused by the situation!

Hi most pepole get them in Cairo
The address is 3 sharia ibrahimi,garden city,Cairo but you need a letter from the British Embassy which is also in the same area(thats if you are British)you can also get your Ethiopa Visa in Cairo.
Well that is what i am lead to belive and hope it is right as we leave Monday from Yorkshire for Cape Town,hope this helps but dont blame me if it goes wrong.

part of the trick to getting a Sudanese Visa , is to look for a " transit VIsa" and prove that you only intend to go through as a means of getting to somewhere else, i.e. have your Ethiopian Visa got before you go for the Sundanese one

when we went through it was pretty straightforward from all the neighbouring countries. You need a letter of introduction which seems daft and means you have to lose a day going in the morning to the British Embassy and back in the afternoon to pick it up then submitting at the Sudanese Embassy and then going back 24 hours later to pick up but other than that, was pretty straightforward. As long as you can show you aren't trying to go to Darfur or Southern Sudan, wasn't a problem. Didn't have to do the transit visa thing, that seemed to be more for trying to go to Saudi. Maybe things have changed but seemed very straightforward. Cool country, nice people.

Still, there's no guarantee on getting visas.

I read (many postings here on the hubb) it could take a few days to a few weeks to get a Sudanese visa depending on the mood of the issuer. Lonely Planet said this would be a crapshoot. And keep in mind holy day, which means government offices closed Friday and Saturday, and hopefully there's not a religious/secular holiday happening...

In Addis, I first hit the Egyptian consulate. A notice on the wall indicated visas were usually issued in one day. For me, it took 5 working days (and one weekend..#*@&!) - a whole week! After that, I went to the Sudanese consulate fearing the worst, and got my transit visa in 24 hours! My experience; everyone else's varies.
