Visa Requirements
It does strike me that many of the threads on this forum are about entry requirements to countries. The repetitive nature of this information would suggest it'd be better in a wiki format rather than in a forum, therefore I've started this page:
Visa Summary for EU citizens - Wikitravel If anyone with knowledge / experience can add to it, which I'm sure many people here can, then please do. Just click the edit button to edit the page, you don't even need an account. I'm sure a simple reference page like this will be of much use to many people!

Correction for Mali entry
Hi Will,
On your Mali entry you state that you need a carnet for the vehicle - you only need to buy a laissez passer at the border (in fact they didn't even bother with that when we entered 1 month ago). I can't alter your entry - maybe you can do it? |

Hey...
On your site, it says Venezuela requires a carnet.. It doesn't ! It also says you don't need a visa.. You do and it needs to be obtained before you enter the country (This was the case for me in 2008. I had to get one in Brazil) Ted

Someone else put that on - the whole point of a wiki is that anyone can update it. So go ahead and do the honours!
Cheers, Will

Will
That looked good - except most of the countries I'm interested in (Tunisia, Algeria, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of Congo, DRC/Zaire, Angola, Namibia, South Africa) aren't listed - and I think you've passed through most of them? What I really need to know is which ones of the above, in that order, do I HAVE to get before (Algeria I know), and which can I get en-route? And maybe some are just easier to get in advance? BUT, I'm 180 miles from London, and not too sure of exact dates. Thanks, Ian |

Also, if you ship your bike into Venezuela (air or sea), I heard they require a carnet. At least, they'd like a carnet. Like everywhere else, carnet not required when you cross a land border. (Similar for Ecuador - ship in, maybe yes, maybe no; ride in, no). Its these differences that make it hard to know what's fact.
