Also interested but from the other direction. Here in Australia it has been made extremely difficult to get one. Might be easier once we get to Africa. Of course the alternative is to go up and around Nigeria. Aimless In Africa are doing that at the moment. Makes interesting reading although when we get to that area in April it will be damn hot.

hi all,

maybe the best place to get it is bamako/mali. spend the guy at the door a icecold coke and get you visa same day (if you do so in the morning).
as thing change quickly in afrika hurry up as long the guy is working there.

i (and many others) got our visas 3 month ago without any hassle.

good luck

Jelga,

For west Africa, including Nigeria, it's a pretty good idea to get the difficult visas ahead of time if at all possible. It's a bit surprising that it is hard to get one in Australia, I got one a month or so ago here in Canada pretty easily.

After arriving in Bamako and watching a bunch of overlanders spend a week waiting for their visas and going back day after day, I was once again reminded that if you can get them at home, do so. In the end, most of them got the visa, but some gave up trying. You are coming from the south, a couple of years back I picked one up in Gabon which was straightforward at that point in time but things change quickly.

Traditionally Nigeria hasn't been as much of an issue for visas as places like Angola, but again a bit of pre planning for the tough countries can save a person quite a bit of hassle. Happy planning.
