We rode from Kenya to SA a few weeks back. There was a bit of trouble with Renamo at the time so the army was making all vehicles go in a convoy led by an armoured car. The convoy started somewhere north of the Gorongosa national park and ended at Save bridge. About 300km. It only leaves twice a day and goes extremely slowly.
However on a bike no one seemed to know what to do with us so we just carried on. Didnt see a single person for the whole stretch apart from 3 chaps with AKs who took 20 quid off us. Probably wouldnt do it again.
I think this should all have blown over now as that is the main supply route for the oil and gas development at pemba and north. The government will pay these guys off pretty quick!
