Tunisia ???

Hello, everybody.
Our group is planning to visit Tunisia for a week in the end of May. We are 12 people on 6 bikes. This is our first visit to Africa and we need to know some basic information for it. If somebody had been there please tell me: What is the price of low category hotels? How much is the price of gasoline there? What is the most attractive sightseeing to be visited? Any problems with police and customs??? Any obligatory vaccines? … and any other vital information http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif Thank you in advance. And if somebody is planning to visit this country in the end of May we may meet each other. See you on the road!

Hi Deso,

It's been a while since I was in Tunisia, and I have no cost figures in my head anymore. Diesel was like half the price of europe I think, petrol maybe 60% or 70%. Cheap accomodation is cheap, no figures, but for 5 EURO you should be able to find yourself a bed.

Things to see depend on what you like and what mood you're in I guess. I didn't like Kairouan because of aggressive selling, the medina in Sfax was impressive to me, as well as the desert south of Douz.

I only got across friendly police and customs.

I have not ridden my moto in Tunisia, but I have passed through there many times ferrying aircraft from sub-Saharan Africa to Europe, and my experience has been that Tunisia is one of the most pleasant and stress-free countries in all of Europe and Africa.

The people are generally quite nice, things usually work the way they are supposed to, and the officials are pretty good - much the same as officials in Europe, no better, no worse.

The biggest income-earner in the whole country is tourism, so, they know not to screw that up. Roads are reasonable - not Switzerland, but not as bad as Ireland.

For a first trip to Africa, I think you have picked the best possible place to go.
