travelling in southern Sudan?

hi all
Lately I heard some positive stories about travelling in southern Sudan, can anyone confirm? Travelling in northern Sudan seems to be possible since ages, but on southern Sudan I heard war-like stories until recently. Is it safe to travel? how are police/military checkpoints? Have more people done it recently? Is anyone planning to travel there soon?

Thanks for your help!!

I stand corrected!

I've seen this question asked here on the HUBB a few times in the last months and I have always replied that it would be a very difficult thing to do based on my working in South Sudan during the last 2 years. I'm glad that an Overlander has proven me wrong.
I'd say follow the link supplied by gvdaa and learn how it's done. If you make it to Yei in Sth Sudan, stop by for a visit.
The only warning I can give is January 11th 2011 (date is liable to change), Sth Sudan votes if she wants to become independant of the north. Most believe this will lead to a resumption of hostilities...
However, I've been proven wrong on this forum many times before.
Good luck,
CJ.

I would advice to not travel by road in South Sudan after November, especially because of jan 2011 referendum.
Moreover right now is many states it's rainy season which add a lot of more challenges.

If you want to travel in South Sudan you should bare in mind to get contact with UN or INGO which could advice you on last security trends....
