Traveller's Cheques ... Help!
 

Hi!
Me and my boyfriend are going to drive the motorbike from Cape Town to Ethiopia during 6 months.
I don't want to take a lot of cash with me.
I was wondering if it is easy to exchange traveller's cheques in Malawi, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi?

Hi,

Wouldn’t go for TC. Very bad rate and hustle to get it changed. If you go for it take your receipt with you because most of the African banks want to see it.

SA, Tanzania and Kenya you have lots of ATM working with Visa. In Uganda there used to be at least one bank in Kampala where you even could get dollars on your visa. I would expect meanwhile more ATM’s.

Travellers cheques are useless...use ATMs...hell if they exist in Nouakchott, Mauritania...then any capital city in Africa will have them!
