The run back from Cape Town to Jo'burg is a 14 hour stint.
(Gone are the times when you could do it in 12 hours, at a 160 km/h cruise) lol
Great N1 highway all the way.
Just stopping for toilet and fuel.
Done it many times.
Watch out, and must slow down when passing the 'dorpies'
The speeding fines is some times the only income for some of these little towns / dorpies.

In Cape Town June is winter and the rainy season. September is spring, therefore much warmer, but still the chance of a days rain exists. But not enough to ruin your 3 week trip.
http://weatherdot24dotcom/ is a site where you may see what the weather holds for the week across the whole country.

There are many speed camera's, on national roads the limit is 120kmph, but when passing through towns or roadworks drops to 60kmph. They are not shy to trap in these area's - as previously stated in thread, is a source of income.

Most area's of South Africa are very safe, just use a little street sense.
And enjoy
To those who say it can't be done - stand aside for those who are already doing it.

BMW hire

Try Motoberlin (mtoberlin.com) for a F650 to hire: Dave (the owner) is extremely helpful, has a range of 650's, 800's and 1200's. If you need a place to stay in Johannesburg, PM me. I have just finished the Americas north to south, am preparing to ride Cape to Cairo in September

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events (22 this year!); we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, the HUBB or to receive the e-zine. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
