Third party insurance Southern/West Africa

When we drove down (Cairo/Cape Town) we had COMESA as a third party insurance. Now we may want to drive up, we wonder which third party insurance we require and where we could/should buy it. In Cape Town already for a whole bunch of countries or separately at each border (sounds more tricky and expensive)?

You can buy Brown Card insurance for West Africa, but I don't know where you get is when heading north. We bought ours in Senegal (at the border with Mauritania) & paid about €90 for 6 months. Valid for every country up to, but not including, Angola. Couldn't find anywhere to buy ins for Angola & no-one checked. However I guess things may be different when you enter from Namibia as the border is a little more sophisticated than the one we used from DRC. So - in simple terms do some research into the Brown Card for West Africa.
