Tanzania - Game Parks & Reserves

Currently working in Tanzania (N-Mara) and am planning a motorbike trip around the country in Feb/March 2008. Am struggling to find info about access to the Parks and Reserves in this region. Know they have recently become loads stricter, but can find any "concrete" facts in this regard. Appreciate any advise.

As far as I know they will not let you in with a motorbike. The only exception is that you can drive through Mikumi NP; there is a lodge close to the road where you can stop and watch the elephants – if you are lucky.

Definately no entrance in any national park/game reserve with a motorbike. May be in Ngorongoro Conservation Area (but not in the crater). Mikumi is normal road and crossing the park on the road is no problem.

regards

Does the no bike rule apply in all African game reserves, or just Tanzania. Sorry to but in.

The only places I know where they allow bikes are the parks in Uganda.

We just spent 1 month traveling around Tanzania.
None of the northern parks will even let you near the parks, Ngorongoro definately wont let you in, not even on the bypass road.
Our favorite park in Tanzania was Katavi, they will let you drive on the bypass road right through the middle of the park for no charge but to explore the park you have to be in a truck. This was truly the best park in tanzania as it has loads of animals on no tourists, we were there for two days and were the only tourists in the whole park, compared to the northern parks where you see a lion and 25 tourists looking at it.
We kept a journal on our website for more info
Welcome to www.quadsacrossafrica.com
Best of luck and enjoy.

We also found a park in Zambia that allowed us, Kafue National Park, we were able to carry a ranger with us but we had the option of going by ourselves.

Cheers,
Josh
