Taking a car/motorcycle to West africa(Mali area)

I red some threads(dated) about selling cars( motorcycles) in West-africa.

I would like to make a trip from Europe(doesn't really from matter where) to West africa and get rid of the car over there.

That could be, somebody in Europe wants a car( or motorcycles) driven to west africa.

Or I buy a car anywhere in Europe, drive it to Africa and sell it(no profit necessary).

Does anybody have any experience in one of these situations? Or maybe knows somebody that does?

If you would buy car, is it hard to sell? are there any known companies that do?

I have no idea where to start.

any reply is welcome!

In Dakar you can sell a car or motorcycle. Problem is finding someone to trust. To sell the bike properly, you have to legalize it with senegal plaques. It means paying a fee depending on the tax value of the bike.

Maybe they can help you.

Buy a cheapo Mercedes 190 diesel. Easy to sell anywhere. But don't expect it to be without complications.

I sold a car in Mali in 2006. The sale itself was straightforward (albeit it with a lot of haggling). We didn't even need to advertise it - people were asking about the car as soon as we parked up at our hotel.

It's technically illegal to sell a vehicle in Mali without paying import duty and we got caught at the airport. There was a vehicle entry and exit stamp for Mauritania so the customs guy worked out what we'd done. My French evapoarted at that point and after ten minutes of "ou est la voiture?" he got bored and let us go.

Afterwards, we found out there is a customs form available for people temporarily leaving vehicles in the country. I'm sure a customs guy can be persuaded to stamp the form for the usual consideration....

I agree with the above posting - Mercedes 190D is the kit to have, preferably LHD. A friend had an accident-damaged RHD 190D and still got 1600 Euros for it.
