sudanes visas in egypt

after getting to egypt (now in cairo) via jordan, we are looking to get into sudan.
we have been told it will take ten days in cairo, and that we need a letter of recomendation from the british embassy.

The lonely planet guide says that we can get sudanese visas in aswan in a day, is this true?
has anyone done it before?

any help much appreciated.

Mark

Stupid question, but did they tell you this at the embassy?
In March last year, I received my visa in Cairo on the day that I applied.
Of course with all the shit kicking off in Western Sudan and the govt. apparently not allowing aid workers into this area, I guess that they would also be tightening up on visa entry, so I doubt it would be any different in Aswan.
Good luck.
