Many thanks for this mate - could you expand a little on how you got in and out of the country and how you found the country - safety, currency needed, visas or permits, border crossings etc?

Much appreciated if you or anybody else could make suggest or point me to blogs etc

I only know of Peter & Kay Forwood's
Peter & Kay Forwood trip on a Harley-Davidson to Somalia

The Boat trip from barbare to yemen is about 30 hours. i found it Very interesting.

As safety goes, i would make it to hargeisa then starting asking local and see what they say,

in the last 5 years I've travel 3 time to Somaliand, 1st and last time i came overland from Ethiopia Harar, Jijiga on public transport. 2nd time i crossed over on my motorbike. never had any trouble with Somaliand police.

Best of luck

One word of advice on Barbera to Yemen "ferry". Get your Yemeni visa beforehand. I have tried it few years ago - Yemeni embassy was assuring me I can get a visa at all points of entry, also sea ports.
Once in Berbera, in front of the ferry, the owner refused to discuss with me the matter, because I have not got Yemeni visa in my passport - had go all way back through Djibouti.
Good luck!
