Shipping Tyres to Abuja (or similar)?
 

I could do with one or two Continental TKC80 when passing through Abuja in a month or two.

Made some enquiries, seems I can't get them there, so wondering about shipping in with DHL or FedEx or similar. Anyone done this? Is it horrendously expensive? And would I also get stung for import duties?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Most African Country's will be a adventure to import tyres ;-)

If you can travel across Lome/Togo. There is a KTM Dealer which usually stores 17" Tyres too.

Yeah the Toni Togo KTM dealer in Lome may be your best bet if tires are unavailable in Abuja. Check out the site. KTM ETS. TONI - TOGO If you can't get to Togo the shop can ship to Abuja.

I was stuck for a TKC as well and ended up having one DHL'd to Brazzaville Congo from the BMW dealer in Cape Town. Hell yeah it was expensive. The shipping was more than $400 USD. (At least that was less than the $1000 USD DHL wanted to ship a tire from the U.S.)

Congo customs wanted $700 USD for import fees but I got very lucky and paid only $20. :)

The BMW shop took credit cards over the phone, all fairly easy.

Thanks guys, just emailed our man in Togo. I'm sure there's a good business oppurtunity to be had selling Conti's in Abuja....

I actually think the price FedEx quoted me to ship a tyre from UK of GBP160 (USD250) doesn't sound so bad now - it's just the 'unknown' of the duties/taxes that bothers me, tho USD20 I could live with!

You can get the TKCs if you email a month ahead.

Adventure bikes are not common and the ones we have are mostly for road use so run Tourances and similar.

Let me know your estimated arrival time in Nigeria and if you want the tires here or will pick up from Togo.

I've been in SMS contact with both Stan and Bala, who's numbers you gave to Kobus, but they couldn't get the TKC's.

It is possible that I could be in Nigeria as early as March 26th - but it may well be some weeks later.

How difficult/expensive would it be to get the tyres from the KTM dealer in Togo to Stan's in Abuja? Is that something you could arrange?

As I say, I've emailed the Togo KTM guy and hopefully will hear from him soon.

Its actually easier to order the TKCs ahead for you for delivery to Nigeria.

We are ordering tyres next week for a shop in Lagos and another in Port Harcourt.

Hi Ian(seem to writing a lot to you these days hahaha), I went to Toni Togo for chain sprocket and got an 18” Michelin desert. Toni’s can be slow replying to emails so might be better calling them, not sure if they’ll have 17” and also said to them if they stocked 17&18 they would sell! Toni and his mechanics were off on the Dakar when I was there and I know they were ordering more stock in from Europe when he got back. Might be a mission getting them to send tyres to Abuja, it’s a long way and things in Africa are now always easy as you think.

I had my battery fail on the way to Abuja, local in Abuja said he could get me a good battery but he gave me a cheap Chinese thing (never got my money back in the end), DHL was 132GBP for 3.2kg and took two days!! DHL is your friend and doesn’t waste your time.

Don’t fancy carrying a bit of rubber behind you then???? :mchappy:
