Shipping resupply boxes

Does anyone have any experience of shipping a resupply box (set of tyres/oil filter/chain etc.) out to meet you on your travels? Is it better to order with/buy the bits from a bike shop in the region or pack everything and fed-ex it out there? Do you send to the General PostOffice, to a hotel, campsite? Do you have to pay duty on the contents of the box?

Any help on a resupply strategy would be much appreciated!

Personally I think you'd be asking for trouble; it's likely to get stuck in customs in a cupboard whilst the customs guys wait for you to come & claim it; giving them the chance of making a bit of cash on the side ...

If it did make it past customs, a box that size could well find its way into the wrong hands never arriving at the destined address!

Resupplying - TKCs etc..

What's the best strategy for our 11,000mile trip on two africa twins. We had thought Fed-ex resuply (as the thread suggests) but currently exploring other options.

We would want to do two rear changes (AT's have odd rear sizes) and 1 front change with oil/filter/plugs at each change....

>ship 2 boxes at 1/3 intervals?
>buy tyres on route?
>ship 1 box just in case?

In my opinion, if you sell boxes with spare parts... you'll fall into the douane "fancy" procedures. I've paied for 2 rear springs because they said [it's a component that it's very particular and expensive!]

If you are able to join Lomé without big damages, you'll find out all you need at TONY MOTORS (big KTM delear for West Africa) along the beach side road.

After he, probably only Namibia and SA have what expected.

Togo [Lome]?

Thanks for the info.:thumbup1:

Hadn't planned on going to Togo but we can with a TouristeVisaEntente.

Any ideas? :confused1:

What do other people do? Hard to do the whole trip on one set of tyres. Gambia? Cameroon?

Maybe I was unlucky... but asking in neighbour countries, noone release the TVisaEntente.
Every border (BFaso, Benin, Mali, Togo) had the poster reporting it, attached on the wall but, nothing more that a picture.

Good luck!

Anyone have any spare capacity?

Just had a thought - is anyone leaving imminently going to Gambia/Senegal/Mali and has the capacity to take a couple of bike tyres:thumbup1: and a few litres of oil:thumbup1: (transit paid for generously?) to be dropped off on route?

When are you going? We do take bikes and kit down to Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Mali, but have nothing leaving imminently.

If you are still stuck, drop me a line or call on: o781 o833583
