Shipping a car to Lome
 

We think about shipping our car to Lome and then start a tour through various countries in West Africa.

1) How difficult is it to get the car through customs in the port of Lome? Do they just issue a LP or do any duties apply?

2) We heard that cars get seriously damaged in the port or that things are stolen from them. Is that really true, even with old cars like ours?

I didn't do it but, asking and looking for there, just feew weeks ago, it seems to be a real hassle!
Forget to have short procedures and to not pay some duties... (the LP is given quite shortely, but it's a different thing)
It's confirmed by friends that have vehicles waiting at the docks, that normally some things are stolen or seriously damaged.
