Senegal with car older than 8 years
Hi Guys,
I'm not so new reader of this forum but this is my first post here, so I would like to say I saw big fat sticky topic about age of car allowed to enter Senegal. I also called Senegalese embassy in Berlin, Germany. All sources inform that there is no chance to enter Senegal with my '97 LR Discovery. Now, as I have to replan my holidays in september I only need a final confirmation from you guys. I thought that older cars are allowed only with CDP and cars younger that 8 years are allowed without it. Kind Regards, Jeremy. |

Hi Jeremiah,
As I understand it: 1. If your car is older than 8 years old, you can enter Senegal with a CDP. However, it might not be stamped at the border, you might have to go to St Louis or Dakar within 48 hours of crossing the border to stamp it there 2. If your car is older than 8 years old, and you do not have a CDP, then you will have a difficult time. 3. If your car is less than 8 years old, you can get a Paissez Lavant at the border. That is my understanding, maybe other people can tell us differently? |

That would be great. But unfortunately, guy from senegalese embassy in Berlin said that my car must be younger that 8 year AND I have to posess CDP. to enter Senegal. It seems really strange for me and that's the reason of my post here.

These guys went through Senegal in their 94 Hilux a few weeks back, they were traveling with some others in a Land Rover of similar age.
I've included a link to their their site as they include loads of useful practical info for border crossings etc. If you are still in the planning stages it would be worth a good peruse! MoonSpaghetti: Senegal |

Does this silly 8 year rule also apply to ECOWAS registered vehicles? We drive an '82 Land Cruiser which is registered in Sierra Leone. Our plan is to drive to Germany next spring and we'll obviously need to pass through Senegal. I'm going to check this out with the guy who does the "Brown Card" and see what he says.
There are not many vehicles here in Sierra Leone outside of the NGO or big businesses that are 8 years or newer. |
