Secure parking at hotels, campaments and other places to stay

In our travels in Central America we were always on the lookout for accommodations that had secure parking as part of the establishment or at a nearby guarded lot.

How common is that in Africa?
Will most hotels know of a secure guarded car park for their guests with vehicles?
Will I need to stay at higher end places to have this sort of service?

The few lower end places we stay at in Freetown, Sierra Leone have this and when we have not had secure parking they busted the window and took a few things like a bag of onions and other groceries, worth far less than the cost of the replacement window. My guidebooks generally don't mention parking, even at the places we stay at that DO have parking.

Most everywhere I have been thus far in Africa has secure place to park. Last night where I stopped in Kenya did not so they had me run the moto into the hotel right next to front desk. This is common in South America but the first time for Africa. Never had reason to be worried about the bike at night yet.

I always managed to find places with secure parking, if your hotel doesn't have any try asking around for somewhere else to leave it, a posher hotel for instance or a secure car park. I found the South America handbook listed motorcycle parking but no LP.

In nearly 3 1/2 years in over 27 African countries we have never had problems finding secure places to park. Sometime you have to look around & exercise your judgement as to whether it's really secure, but we've never had a problem yet.
