Routes through Africa

In planning to cross Africa on the west side I am finding it very difficult to get information on exactly which countries are accesible and pass-throughable. Can I get a visa for the DRC, which countries should I be avoiding and how can I get from Mauritania down to Namibia without flying etc... Perhaps for tose of you who have ridden the route you can give me some sensible advice.
Cheers

Hey edorr88.

When are you leaving? I'm about ready to start on my trip on the westcoast and leaving around 1'st of November. Morocco to SA.

Visa wise, do a search here on the hubb. The info may not be from yesterday, but as far as I can tell, only DRC and Angola are tough to get solid info on. If nothing else, I will try and get transit visas at the border for both countries.

Gabon, DRC and Congo will be no problem. You can get these visa in Yaounde. We got all three visa in 2 days (2006). The difficult one will be Angola. Most travellers report now that a 5 day transit visa can be obtained in Matadi (DRC)and if you overstay the 5 days, the customs won't bother you! If you do a search, there will be plenty of threads on the subject in this hubb.

Cheers,

Noel

Hi

Go to Africa-overland.net and read the last 4-6 travelogues. I think 3 went down the west side within the last year. Most of them write where, how much, how bad and also give excellent gps points.

Good luck
