Road conditions Senegal to Guinea
Hi ,
coming from Guinea Bissau we drove in October 09 from Kundara to Labe. The fist 37 km after Kundara where already tarmac and for another 100 km there was road work going on. With the Chinese building pace it may be nearly finished yet. The track to Labe was rough and corrugated but for the end of the rainy season with ongoing rains not too bad. Locals still did it with 2WD Taxi Brousse even we wondered sometimes how they managed to pass some of the mud holes. The ferry across the Bantana is 15.000 Franc Guinee even if the crew is asking for more. Friends want to go from Kundara to Boundou in Senegal. Is anybody aware of the road conditions to Senegal and further on in Senegal? Kind regards Bernd

Thanks for this information Bernd.
Could I ask, would the ferry you talk about be able to take a rigid truck? It will weigh approx 11 tonnes, and be about 9 meters in length. Also, does anybody have any more information on this road (Koundara to Labe)? Have the Chinese finished it now? |

Hi Dave,
ferry was pretty solid. 9to truck should be no problem and there is also local truck traffic on the road. I will check if we have a picture somewhere ;-) regards Bernd

We drove to Rosso from the UK in Feb 2011 and there is good Tarmac all the way except for 3KM at Morroco Mauri border and the last 30KM before Rosso is corrugated. Dave When are you planning your trip ? as we hope to drive to Capetown this winter via the atlantic route but have not yet fixed dates. Chris |

We passed there a year ago, lots of work to do, cannot say if completed or not. This (see pics below) was the only ferry along the route
