Repairs/Services in East/ Southern Africa

Hi All,

I'm based in Malawi and ride an 03 XT600e. I plan to do a few longer rides in the region ( I've yet to venture out of Malawi), and finally to ride the bike back to Europe late next year.

I had the bike serviced recently at the bike centre in Lilongwe with a South African guy Jimmy. (who was a great resource for anyone on the Capetown - Cairo route.)

We had a chat about bikes, and I'd intended to get the bike serviced and modified in readiness for longer trips. Sadly, I heard that Jimmy passed away earlier this year. RIP

I'm no mechanic and a novice rider, so I'd like to get info on bike repair centres in the region ( Dar, Nairobi, Lusaka, Harare, Mozambique) so that when I do strike out into the region, I know where to go, if I have difficulties.

Thanks for any help

WS

Hey WS,

In Nairobi the most common destination is Chris at Jungle Junction. There is also a KTM dealer who might be able to help you out in a pinch if you are looking for general parts like tires, etc. Don't know if they make a habit of working on non KTM bikes though. Cheers.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
