Passenger ferry between Sudan and Saudi Arabia

Our car is parked in Kenia and we are planning a trip from there through Ethiopia, Sudan and then onwards to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey and then back home to Holland.

Could anyone give me some recent information on the ferry between Sudan and Saudi Arabia? Is there a regular line between the two countries and if so at wich day(s) of the week does the ferry depart from Sudan. And is it possible to transport a car on this ferry?

Hi,

we are two Belgian travellers who are now in Khartoum trying to get our Saoudi visas and informing about these ferries. Apparently ferries sail three times a week (monday, wednesday and saturday at 5 p.m.)from Suakin and yes, you can take a car without much problems. Our van is 3.25meter high however, and i still don't know if that is a problem.
If you're an unmarried couple you have a problem as the Saudis will not grant you visa.
I hope this info is usefull. Take care,

Koen (and Heidi)

According to my information there is a ferry every day, but not run by the same company, so check before you buy your ticket. Departure is around 5 pm, you have to enter the port and start formalities at 1 pm, it takes time...
Good luck
Albert
