Nigeria? what to do

hi all,
does anyone have current information about the situation in nigeria?? last i heard the borders are still closed with all countries but benin, and protests in the south were sometimes attack vehicle users. i am suppose to ride into nigeria in a few days and just wondering what people are doing about this situation?? is it still possible to cross nigeria? alternatives? prefer not to waste my $120 visa (got in accra by the way next day little hassle).
if anyone is in nigeria and can give me info on what its actually like on the ground that would be useful too.

Cheers
Corey

Hey Corey,

I was there a couple of weeks ago, pre-protests though. Tough to predict how long the protests will last or whether they will peter out or one side will give in.

Give it some time to settle down, and then depending on how things look, one option you might want to consider loading up with as much fuel containers as your bike can carry and taking the northern route across to Cameroon. A few of the gas stations were closed when I was there and some the ones open in big cities had long line ups. Probably wasn't an issue of fuel shortages but an issue of fuel hoarding to take advantage of the profit from the expected fuel price increase. Usual rules, stay away from the big cities and stop well before night. Ride safe.
