News about Senegal Border??? - Horizons Unlimited

Hi,

Anyone have news about the border from Mauritanea to Senegal??? There were some problems about cars older than 5 years old. Is only cars or bikes have the same problem??

Im in the Gambia and have so far met 5 people who crossed the border in the last couple of weeks. If the car is over 5 years a carnet is required and that is definite, in both Diama and rosso, there is no chance it seems to get through without a carnet (unless you take a customs convoy to Gambia or some other country). I presume that a bike over 5 years needs one too, there is a posting about someone who got through on a 6 year old bike with a carnet no probs.

I'm planning on driving through Senegal march next year. It is still not clear to me if it is possible to drive through Senegal with a car older then 5 years, with a carnet What is your experience? We will be driving from Holland to Guinee with 3 Patrols and a Landcruiser.

the day i was picking up my carnet from paris automobile club was the day the fax came through from senegal stating no bikes over 5yrs old where allowed in the country the same went for cars but i think diesels where excluded

I met two Dutch people in Ziguinchor on Saturday who were offered a passavant at the border from gambia to Senegal, they were told that no carnet was required. This is the border post on the Transgambian highway going south.

de Duin; Like I said above if the car is more than 5 years old then either you get a carnet or get a customs escort from the border at Rosso to the border of Guinea Conakry.

Stephane: I have met two bikes over one 1996 one 1991 who got in about 2 weeks ago with a carnet no problem.
