New to South Africa and wanting to ride

Hi - I've just moved to Durban and I forgot to pack my BMW! I'm here for a year at the end of which I would much prefer to ride the long way home through Africa rather than just take the boring flight home. I let myself think it would be easier to find a bike here than ship mine from the US. I hope that was not an insurmountable mistake. Anyway, I would like to buy a bike in South Africa. I prefer BMW and my budget prefers airheads to oilheads. A GSPD would be perfect! Please consider me if you are crossing Africa and ending anywhere near SA - I will gladly buy your bike from you! Cheers!

Just check Bike magazine's like "Bike SA" that you can buy in almost every shopping center. It has lots of "bike for sale" adds with bikes in all price ranges.
Good Luck

I think you have the info needed but if you end up in hazyview, mpumalanga, give me a call and we can go for a short doddle around. some great routes around here.

Hi Martman,

I will be in Hazyview (if that´s the Hazyview near Kruger) around October 21st, if everything goes by plan.

Care to have a mini-HU-Travellers-meeting ?

great stuff, if you get there find a pub called Stuck in the Mud, best local around. I live across the road and we can have a frosty. how long will you be in the area?

2-3 days in Blyde River Canyon, 6 weeks in ZA, starting from Capetown, north -> Augrabies, east -> Hazyview :-), south -> Durban, northwest -> Lesotho, southwest -> Addo, west -> Capetown

How can I reach you, when I get to Hazyview ?

Martman 3 Oct 2004 01:22

you can call me on my mobile,0823237415 and as I said, I live across the road from 'Stuck in the mud pub'. Hazyview is not a big place and most people will be able to give you directions. it is about 3km up the Sabie road from hazyview. Unfortunately I cannot help out with accomodation but can certainly try point you in the right direction if you would like help. there are alot of almost every sort of accomodation in the area because of the Kruger and surrounding areas. let me know if you need anything. call me a day or two before you get here so that I can be sure to be around. see ya.
