Motos Against Malaria

All of us worldwide riders and travellers can help save the lives of thousands of people throughout the world, in the fight against malaria. If we all band together and gather support from colleagues, friends and family — we have the ability to raise thousands of dollars to buy & distribute moquito bed nets to prevent this disease that claims millions of lives every year. Please feel free to check out this link and the amazing work the the Against Malaria Foundation is doing.
Ride and travel with a purpose...we are a great community — together we CAN make a difference.

Ugandan Programme

Hello all,

Another great orginization for malaria nets is at Fight Malaria in Uganda: rural clinic, mosquito net distribution, health center, health education in Uganda. They have a wonderful education programme that accompanys every net they distrubute and they do follow up visits to make sure the nets are being used properly. Their monotering and evaluation is solid and they have proven a great record with results in their communities. Run by an awesome doctor and Kayaker living in Jinja Uganda.

thanks ugandabike...we'll be sure to check it out when we arrive in the country. they are making some great headway into prevention of the disease by putting mosquito nets into the hands of those who need them. we'll do whatever it takes to help save lives.
thank you so much for your help.

peace & love,
T&T

No Problem

Hey,
No Problem, Glad to hear you are going through Uganda and are interested in this programme. They are located about 8 KM from Jinja (a great slow paced biker freindly town to go to). Ask anyone around (boda boda guys are best, the motorcycle taxis) to give you directions to the NRE (nile river explorers) campsite at bijagali falls then ask those guys how to get to soft power. By motercycle it is litterally 2 mins away from the camp site, but a but hard to find without directions. You will be looking for the Soft Power Education centre, a big brightly coloured building and right beside it is the health clinic that does this great work. If you have a bit of time to spend there they are always looking for a helping hand (especially when your self driven). Good friends of mine run the education centre, they are all a good crew.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
