Motorbike insurance Mauritania,Mali and Niger
I'd like to have some information about how and where can I obtain the insurance for my motorbike in these countries:
Mauritania Mali Niger Do you have any idea about the prices ?! Thanks a lot |
You can buy insurance at the Mauritania border or in any city, Nouadhibou coming from the north. Or ask for it at any of the campings in Nouadhibou and somebody will most certainly help you.
In Mali you can get Carte Brune insurance card in any city, valid for all Ecowas countries including Niger. Don't know about the prices for motorcycle, I drive a 4wd. |
Like Ronnie said, you need insurance in Mauri seperatly and then get a carte brune for the other countries (available in any insurance office). Both are pretty cheap at 10 to 20 euro's depending on the lenght of the insurance.

thank you guys
If the Carte Brune is valid for all the Ecowas countries do you think I can get it in Senegal and use it all over those countries ? I'm not planning to visit all of course but would be nice to have the same insurance for Benin,Burkina Faso,Ivory Coast,Gambia,Ghana,Guinee,GuineeBissau,Liberia,Mal i,Niger,Nigeria,Senegal,Sierra Leone and Togo ! May be have one in Senegal for 3 month lenght !?!? Is it a crazy idea ? |
Yes, no problem getting it i Senegal.
And three months shouldn't be a problem. Think I had two or three months last time. |
Hi Ronnie can I ask you which countries have you visited with the Carte Brune ?
|
Hi,
I went through in spring 2010 and you could get Mauri insurance at the border (no more than 30E) or a bit cheaper in NDB. You could get 2 different multi-country insurance policies which covered different countries at the border posts at either Mali or Senegal. If you just tell the insurance guy where you are travelling to then he will make sure you get the right policy (or both policies if required). One policy did all Fracophone countries and the other did many of the same countries but included Gambia and Nigeria from memory. Both are very cheap - again maybe about 20 Euro for 3 months. Lee |
I've used Carte Brune in Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo och Benin.

My experience this February.
Insurance cost at the Mauritatian No Mans Land border post was 2'585 Ouguyias, something like 6,50EUR, for 10 days. |
