Dakar to Nairby - best route?

I've previously gone from Cape Town to Nairoby. In january I will make my way from Tanger to Dakar (and then to Bissau). On a mission to connect the dots North-South in Africa, i would very much like to find the best route between Dakar and Nairoby.

In Chris Scott's Adventure Motorcycle handbook, he depicts on a map an alternative route that takes you from Dakar, through Chad and Sudan, but provides no info about it besides the map. All I read about Chad tells me not to go, and if i should ever find muyself there, get the hell out asap. What are your opinions about this route?

If there is no good route west-east between Dakar and Nairoby, then all I am really left with as far as I can see is to drop my ambition to connect these dots all together and rather make a third trip between either Cape Town and Dakar, or between Alexandria and Nairoby - this in my pursuit to having traversed Africa North to South.

You might think it stupid that i feel that i have to travel North South in a connected and uninterrupted route, and i would agree. Still, I can't help it - this is what i want.

Thanks for all input.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
