Mauritanian vehicle insurance
 
My guide book talks about needing to purchase Mauritanian insurance. Is this how it works for Mauritania? Is it readily available on the border and what is the cost for a transit only policy (Diama Dam direct to Morroco).

I'm trying for a "Green Card" insurance which should cover Mauritania but so far no luck in getting a response from the agent after sending in the documents.

You can optain it on the (main) border crossings. The price - i dont know.

At sample the Mauretanien Border between Kiffa/Keys (Mali, Mauretania) - i guess they dont have more than a stamp. To find them in the next bigger city - can be hard to find...

Mauritania Insurance
 
Green card should be issued via any European vehicle insurance and covers you for Morroco only. Insurance is available at the border at €35 (Nov 2011) for 10 days in Mauritania.
We had a carnet but they weren't interested in it so had to pay €15 to customs!
