Mauritania-Mali crossing

hello fellows, we are planning to do the trip Holland to Burkina Faso in Januari 2008. i have done this twice before in 1999 and 2000 taking the ''Route de l'espoir'' but now i heard there is a new tarmac road between Mauritania, somewhere before or after Kiffa and Mali. can anyone tell me where it starts and through which towns is it going to Bamako?
