Logging route to Mamfe (Cameroon), recommend route south to Kumba after this…

Done the logging route to Mamfe on 8Feb10, 3hours done in dry. It has some interesting sections but the hardest is at the start then goes into a maintained graded route (they were working on it), watch out for trucks on that part and be prepared to go off road. Like everybody says it will be fun in the wet.

If you are still up more interesting stuff after this head south to Kumba passing Nguti on the partly improved road (Michelin map 741). Trucks have not used this for a while now, has some long sections of ruts at the start but nothing that bad. There were some bad sections on power with the Logging Route but these are doable (there was a bulldozer heading north improving the road so the worst parts might be repaired). Got 5litres fuel on the road side from a large glass bottle, had no issues using it. The middle section of this route south is tarred road with a few potholes, usual thing. Then the latter section (longer distance than the first rutted section) is maintained graded road all the way to Kumba, very nice and wide with logging lorries using it.

Think it took about 5hours along this route down through the jungle, has some great views and waterfalls under the huge long curving viaduct (camping spot!). The route was dry but the first section before the tarred part could be more challenging in the wet. This was a great way to turn the corner of Africa off the main route and into Cameroon, very friendly people. The Manfe logging route followed by this route south was the best day’s riding so far!!

Go on you know you want toooooo! :scooter:
ENJOY.

Duck, to put it in perspective, what bike are you riding?

Duck 2 Mar 2010 16:49

Hi Ian, been out of contact for a bit.

She’s a 2007 KTM 640 Adventure, loaded with strengthened(myself) Touratech aluminium panniers so not as light as it could be. Just arrived in Brazzaville from Dolisie, having a beer…

^ Hey Duck, great news. Hope youre enjoying the trip.

How was the road from Lamberene to Dolise then onwards to Brazzaville? Much mud this time of year?! Many trucks struggling? Thanks, enjoy the well earned beer!

Hi Dave, was an interesting route from Dolisie!! The bike is filthy and also my gear, heading to get her washed and start servicing, she’s earned it. Will post about the route when I get a chance later. All traffic was moving on route what there was of it but the rains are a comin!! It’s a hell of a route across :mchappy::eek3::mchappy::eek3::mchappy::eek3::mcha ppy::eek3::mchappy:
