Kenyan - Tanzania Border Crossing at Maasai Marah

Is crossing the border here even possible? On google maps there appears to be a road there, labeled the C12 on the Kenyan side and the B144 on the Tanzanian side. It's just sotuh of teh Kenyan town called Keekorok.

We want to do it as we'll be travelling around Maasai National Park then just want to head off into the Serengeti without having to head over to Namanga and back tracking for miles.

We'll already have pre-organised visas for Tanzania.

Not possible to cross borders inside the parks. There is a big gate that will stop you.

Thanks for that info, that could have been a bit awkward on the day :)

It would then be very easy to follow the A23 and cross around Taveta instead of Namanga. I've heard that the Taveta crossing can be less reliable than the Namanga one,. But I also just read they made some new border post offices just out of town closer to the border, so I guess it can't be all bad.

Has anyone recently used the Taveta border crossing into Tanzania, or know of any reports?

There is a border crossing just to the west of the two parks, at Isabania, heading to the Kenyan town of Migori. You can turn east at Suna, 20km north of the border, and head down the Soit Olol Escarpment on a rough track that takes you to Lolgorien and back into the Maasai Mara. There's bad cotton mud on this track in the rainy season. If you're on a bike, you're not going to be allowed into either the Mara or the Serengeti. FYI, Keekorok is a lodge, not a town.

Thanks for the info. I think we'll be going through Isebania now. Good to know where the tracks are too, great info.
