Jordan, Aqaba to Sudan, Port Sudan

A Jordanian friend of mine is adamant that it is possible to travel between Aqaba and Port Sudan via boat.

Anybody travelled this way or familiar with the route?

thanks

I have still not had any info on whether there was a ferry. Its such a long way that I would imagine that only a cargo vessel would head that way.

My next plan was to cross from jordan, saudi, yemmen and then get a ferry into dijbouti, but Yemmen is relatively unsafe.

Was there ever an answer to this?

I know it was a long time ago but any information would be good. I'm in Ethiopia at the moment and would love to know if it is worth visiting Port Sudan. We are not on a Carnet so avoiding Egypt is preferable, and in Sudan we only have 96 hours to cross without a Carnet so don't want to waste our time going to Port Sudan if it isn't going to work for us. Having said that hopping over to Saudi Arabia is also a good option.

Thanks,

Stu.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
