Simon in Abene - Casamance, Senegal

I'm posting here as it will probably be seen here by those who knew Simon Fenton, a true lover of all things Senegalese, author of two books and was editing the Bradt guide to The Gambia.

Sadly, he died last week near Mbour in a car accident. He was also the owner of The Little Baobab, Abene where many overlanders have passed through. He's left his wife Khady and two young boys as well as a global network of friends in shock and devastation. Hoping that HUBBers in the future will continue to support his efforts in the region

The funeral is tomorrow in Abene. RIP Simon!

There's also an appeal that has gone out for his wife and two small boys: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/simon-fenton

Thanks Tim, wasn't sure if I was allowed to post that ...

We all want to do the right thing by the family for Simon's dreams, hoping that The Little Baobab will continue to receive visitors.

He also wrote two wonderful books, 'Squirting Milk at Chameleons' & 'Chasing Hornbills'

Simon's wife, Khady has the Little Baobab open again and looking forward to receiving guests, I'm sure some HUBB'ers will enjoy it! Be a wonderful support for her and their boys to have tourists around again!

I spent a very pleasant couple of nights at le petit baobab last week, and hope to get back there next month. As Creer says, I would encourage others to visit...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
