Joburg - Kinshasa

I will start my trip on January 6th in Joburg heading to Kinshasa on my new 1190 Adventure R.
Will anyone else be around at the same time?
Have a safe trip
Albert

Albert,

Enjoy the ride!

When you finish I look forward to seeing a comparison of how the 1190 compares for an overland trip to the 640 Adv you rode down the west coast a few years ago.

Regards
Matt

PS - We met at Toni Togo in 2010. I was on the old 640 Adv.

Hi Matt,
Nice to hear from you. How was your trip down south in 2010? Any new travel plans?

Hi Albert

I try to maintain a list of all travellers on the west from 2012 upwards.

Trans-Africa: Gerade Unterwegs...

You will find there the most recent informations i guess.

When you are in Angola, get a look at the Calandula Falls and the Pedras Negras. We did the westroute at the end of 2012, you find our daily diary and pictures about angola and the whole route here: Trans-Africa

You start today? I`m soo jealous! Hope you let us travel with you, with some reports and pictures :-)

Right now I am stuck at Joburg aiport. My bike apparently is here but Ethiopian Airlines, used by DHL without my consent, lost my Carnet de Passage en Douanes...

Hope to get a new Carnet by Wednesday to finally start my trip.

Here some info on Angola, entering from Namibia:

- At Immigration / customs a copy of the following documents is required: Passport, visa, invitation letter, driving licence, carnet de passage and bike documents. It takes 2 hours to get through. Pretty unfriendly officials, one of them asked for a bribe, I did not pay
- Fuel available every 200 - 300 Km
- Very friendly population
- 70 Km piste between Humbe and Cahama, beside this stretch nearly everything is sealed until Luanda where I finished my trip.

Have a safe trip
Albert
PS: I traveled on a KTM 1190 Adventure R, the ideal bike for this journey
