Insurance warning Gambia
 

We crossed the border into Senegal a few weeks ago at Diama and had to buy insurance at the cafe before we could be issued with a pasavant. We were told that the insurance covered all the ECOWAS countries. On the road from Farafenni to Brikama in The Gambia we were stopped at a police checkpoint and asked for our insurance. The cop pointed out that it didn't cover us for The Gambia. Luckily he told us to buy insurance as soon as we got to Serrakunda and gave us a bollocking for not reading the back of the insurance which covered all the countries in West Africa exept The Gambia. I don't know if The Gambia could have been added at Diama but if not I don't think there is anywhere in Farafenni to buy it.

If you ask the guy in the cafe for a carte brune he'll issue you with one. That gives you several other countries and at no extra cost. Don't know why he doesn't issue them as standard personally!
