Has anybody been in the Gambia by car lately?

Has anybody passed the Senegalese - Gambian border lately? It seems that the Gambian and the Senegalese are quarreling about passing each others borders once again. Senegalese vehicels are stopped at the Gambian border and in reverse Gambian vehicles at the Senegalese border. But now it seems that there are also Malian and Guinnea Bissau-cars stuck in The Gambia. So why would they make an exception for European cars? This could be a big problem for the hunderds (!) of participants of the coming Plymouth - Banjul rally and the Amsterdam - Dakar (= also Banjul) -rally. Although personally I wont regret this.

Yep . I was there. One week and a half ago there were serious blockade at Karang border (but it was only in the Senegalese side) . They -senegalese- told me that the border was blocked as a protest for the ferry monopoly / ferry prices ,e tc...

Also the farafeny route was blocked with senegalese TRUCK drivers , making it impossible to reach the border

I was riding a mCycle btw.

Well , back to Karang , From The gambian side , people were waving their hands as indicating me to "jump" the border ,

so I just drove past the senegalese douanne/customs/police without stopping , ignoring their half-hearted requests to stop , and then .. quick as hell to the Gambian side. Quite exciting , indeed. They didnt seem to care about that , and I was let into the gambia with no further trouble.

Once in the Gambia , there were rumours that the border was open again for Euro-registered cars in about one week or so .

Also two days later , I saw in Banjul a big overlanding grey 10Ton truck (Deutz?) which was waiting at the border .. so I guess the border is open again.

and that is . Hope this helps.

Javier
