Ghana visa availability on route in West Africa
 

Hi guys

We've read that its not possible to get your ghanian visa enroute - only in your country of residence (for us UK).

Does anyone have any more info on this as this is going to cause us problems.
We are working in France just now leaving Europe mid October and travelling down west Africa - we were planning to get all our visas as we go.

If we can't get a ghana visa, we may not need a carnet so its pretty important that we find out before we submit our carnet applications.

Any info gratefully received.

This doesn't answer your question, but the Ghanian visa, whilst it may be important for your carnet considerations, is pretty low on the list of overall visa issues.

Other countries (Angola, DRC, etc.) that are impossible or just really hard to avoid, can be a royal pain to get visas for on the road and have tripped up many a traveller. You will want to read a lot of the threads here to get a sense of the current status, but suffice to say that you should consider getting those two visas from your home country and not on the road.

I strongly suggest you get it in UK. There not many people that I read about who managed to get it in Africa. I've never tried my self but it have been very easy all three times in Europe, Copenhagen.

If you are in France, can't you just send it to the Ghanian embassy in London by mail?

We picked up our visas for Ghana in Ouga Burkina Faso, the guy at the embassy was a bit of an arse but after suitable doffing of caps we picked them up after 5 days without too much bother.

PS Apply for your Angola visas in Accra!

Can most certainly pick them up on the way, though to my knowledge you cannot purchase them at the border. Got it in 24 hours at the Ghanaian embassy in Lome, Togo for 15,000 CFA.

Got my Ghana visa in Bamako this year.
Nigeria in Bamako too.
DRC visa in Libreville, Gabon (one of the easiest places)
Angola was the real challange, didn't get it anywhere. Only way is in the home country, even if it will be expired, get it, once you haven one in your pasport they can extend it on the road.

anyone eles get there visa in Abidjan recently, i dont want to gert stuck in Dakkar ...dont know were there is a cheap place to camp near the capital

Gazza suggest camp at Lac Rose, it's not that far from the city, half decent campsite, would do the job if desperate.

do you know the name of the camp and rough prices....it would help a lot....im googleing as i write, but real info from travellers is better

Visa Ghana bemako 20.000 cfa same day near ambassy of ivoricost.

Dakar embassy staff ignored us completely and did not even let us explain. Got the visa in Freetown eventually but not easily.

The embassy of Ghana has recently moved from the city centre up the hill and is easiest reached by taking a poda poda up to Wilberforce Roundabout. The usually only issue visas to residents so it took us a couple of hours of explaining and waiting until our application was accepted. Having the Nigeria visa already in our passports helped as it proved our intentions to travel to South Africa. It took 6 days to process our applications as everything had to go through Accra and had to be done perfectly. Even the smallest mistakes on the application form needed to be fixed with correction fluid and rewritten.
You get one form from the embassy and need to copy it three times. The four identically filled out forms together with another form provided by the embassy and 4 passport photos should do the trick.
We paid 100US$ (no notes smaller than 50US$ accepted) for a 1 month single entry visa with entry within 1 month.

Ghana visa
 

I got my Ghana visa in Ouagadagou (or something), Burkina Faso. I was refused in Bamako and told by ex-pats that Burkina was a reliable place to do it.

I needed an invitation letter, and $60 or so. You also have to write a letter saying why you didn't apply in your home country (but talk to them first, not all excuses are good). Normally it takes 3 days to process, but beware of Ghana holidays and weekends (poor planning = I waited a week for mine).

Not usefull for most, but if travelling from South to North, you can get it easily in Brazzaville.
Very friendly and helpfull staff and after handing over the application papers i waited for 15 minutes before i got my passport back with the visa.
