Thumbs up Ghana, Togo & Benin

Fellow Riders,
planning a tour departing Accra in Ghana, into Togo, Benin and back to Accra.
Any peace of info or advise regarding Carnet, Visas, border crossings, or anything you'd think important, would be very welcome.
Thanking you all in advance,
Nice Rides!

No carnet needed. Visas for Togo and Benin can be picked up ahead of time easily or transit visa available at the border. Borders are straightforward from an African perspective. Pick up your brown card insurance.

Make sure you have your yellow fever vaccination card. The Ghanaian border guards have a habit of asking for it, and extracting "payments" if you don't.

Hi,
assuming you already have a multiple entry visa for Ghana it will be a nice round trip.
If you have to apply for a new one you may ace a problem to return. Ghana sems to be very restrictive about the visas only on the country of origin issue.

regards
Bernd

Basically it's third party insurance that covers a bunch of west African nations. Useful as you don't have to buy separate insurance for every country. Double check to make sure that the countries you will be travelling will be covered and then buy it in the first appropriate country.

The brown card is accepted all across West Africa.

Crossing the main borders may be a bit tiring, use smaller border crossings if you can.

The main ones are all on/near the Atlantic the coast and carry like 90%+ of the traffic across the three countries.

Leorardo Travellers Inn, Tema

I'm interested to see details, we have a bungalow in Community Three, Tema (I was with Ghana Air Force many years ago and my wife Susie is Ghanian).

Just now in UK but hoping for six weeks in Tema later this year, when I will like to look up this hotel. Looking on GE and from my memory, since it's
opposite the Navy Base, I'm guessing at 5.64868N 0.02139E.

Enjoy your time there.

Peter

Is there a definitive list of what counties are covered by the Brown Card insurance scheme

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
