Ghana - Tamale to Yendi to Akosombo

Hi all,

Has anybody driven the above route described?

Could you tell me road conditions, I imagine the eastern side of Lake Volta to be very pretty and would like to try it, but get conflicting stories about if the roads will be passable at certain times of the year.

Thanks very much.

We drove it in 2002. Road was a good graded gravel road. Bit of 2 wheel drive traffic. No problems. No idea if gets harder at other times of year but no problem when we did it. We were there in early January 2002. Don't remember it as being that scenic. Nice enough, met some very cool people but don't remember landscape being that impressive

ThereĀ“s some nice scenery east of the lake on both sides of the (Togo) border, although mostly in a rather quiet sort of way, not spectacular. I think it depends largely on your context and expectations. I found it really nice to get up in elevation a bit--there were times I could actually sleep without a fan. Of course, locals were all wearing jackets and complaining about the cold.

I have not been that way during the rains, but I will warn that views can be limited during harmattan, which might start in December....but then again, might not.

Hope that helps.

Mark
