Getting to Goma, DRC, for the gorillas

I'm in Uganda at the moment, and am considering going to Goma in the DRC to see the gorillas.

Does anyone have up to date information for this, and details as to what is necessary (ie: where to get visas, any issues on the border, where to get gorilla permits, where to stay, current safety situation etc?)

Thanks
Steve

Thought that this might be helpful. Found their blog a few weeks ago. They were there last month and I'm sure you can contact them thru' their blog for up to date info.
How to visit the mountain Gorillas and experience Congo!

It might be too late for this specific request, but I regularly go to Goma for my work (I'm based in Lubumbashi) and have quite up-to-date information about security in the area.

In general Goma itself is quite ok in terms of security, and the border crossing coming from Rwanda is not very difficult (at least to Congolese standards). Going north of Goma however is something that needs to be thoroughly checked before venturing in that area - security is very volatile and can change from day to day.

Best sources are NGO's (or sometimes UN - but they tend to be, well, UN...), of which you can find enough in Goma (if you go to IRC - International Rescue Committee- you can always use my name as intro).

For info about Congo-DRC in general, don't hesitate to contact me anyway...

cheers/jef
