Getting a Motorbike Lisence in Namibia?
 

I am traveling through Africa with my boyfriend on a motorbike. He has a license but I don't but I would like to get one. Would you happen to know how long it would take me to get a motorbike license in Namibia, and how difficult it would be? I am a US citizen with just an auto license.

I would like to respectfully suggest that you get the licence in USA; then request an international licence from your local
Automobile Association (or whatever it is called in USA). The process simply takes too long in Nam and I am not sure whether they will allow a foreigner (we used to call you " aliens"!) to sit for a licence just like that. Just kidding. Yup that's me. Well we just made it to Cape Town, yiippi. We had our record day of 704 km getting in with crazy winds in Cape Town knocking down trees, flipping cars over and dead birds all around. I might be getting a lisence mailed to me from Zambia :) and yes it's time for my own bike......

we just bought tickets to South America for end of Nov....so we're excited to see a new continent (as long as they let our Africa Twin in), but was great meeting you guys.

Great stuff, now what bike are you going to get? are you buying one in SA? you missed out on a great deal with a XR250 Baja a few months ago....by the way Amy, it cost them R40.00 to fix up the oil pipe, spoke to Trevor today and she's being loved tremendously. well Brad and Jola, you guys have a safe and exciting trip in South America, will follow your site.

Thanks for the Congrats Amy, and Brad is not getting more hair, unfortunalty, but he is losing more hair. he he. Namibia was nice, with a lot of beutiful spots, but the parks just went up double in price, so they were asking R600.00 just for the two of us to camp in front of the park in that poophole. They are crazy. So it was just WAY overpriced and nice, but not as spectacular as I had imagined, but we also did not spend that much time there.

Yah, Martin Im thinking of a Honda 250 or something a little bigger.... Everyone keeps recommending the 250. What ya think Amy...and with the shipping costs I'm just hoping to get one in South America, but most likely not until Chile, cuz otherwise it sounds like a pain in Brazil and Argentina.

250's are great but it really depends on what the roads are like and what roads you'll take, I think you could actually handle something a bit bigger.
the 250 started to struggle a little when we were on Tarmac,, but I was trying to keep up with two Africa twins!!!

Get one in South America, I think BA is the place to get them but I'm not sure.. as they are supposedly much cheaper!!! and you can sell it afterwards. let me know what you do!!!
Can't believe they doubled the prices.....
