Lightbulb GAMBIA: rent/buy a motorbike or scooter/moped

Hello,

is it possible to rent/buy a motorbike or scooter/moped in Gambia? I need it to take a 2-weeks ride around the country.

Thanks for help!!!

Used to be a couple of rental places within a block of the Senegambia entrance. Bikes were 125cc variations--"sport bikes," enduros, choppers (!). There were also lots of dune buggy/ATVs for rent, which seemed more popular. I rented for a couple of days.

I'm just offering this up in case you don't get a more current response. I was last there about 6 years ago, so take with a grain of salt. And FWIW: easy touring in The Gambia, with only minimal corruption, slow speeds, reasonably friendly people once away from the Senegambia strip. It should go without saying that riding at night is foolish, and that scams abound wherever there are lots of tourists (mainly Senegambia again).

Hope that's helpful.

Mark

Thanks a lot for your post.

What do you mean by "Senegambia entrance"? Area around Serrekunda and Faraffeni?

Yes, yes, yes !!!

I did it! I had many possibilities to buy 2nd hand, new or rent a bike. It's not easy if you want a good price (buy/sell) so reserve more time. However it's definitely worth an effort. The Gambia is amazing - extremely nice and helpful people and amazing animals on the way.

The best option is to meet some cool local guys and ask them for help. The bike can be bought/rented in Serakunda / Senegambia.

ps. The heat can kill your bike so check oil and avoid driving long distances when the sun is burning )

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
