nigeria with no carnet

Hi all,

From what I have gathered there seems to be the possibility of getting into nigeria without a carnet.

Helpful Javier Carrion posted on october 15th that no carnet was needed. I just wonder if it is the legal way _laissez passer_ or the even more legal way_$$$$_

Anyone can bring some light to this point?
[I already have a visa if that makes a difference]

Cheers,

Leo

No carnet needed for Nigeria

Hi Leo,

We just passed through Nigeria by car and we did not need a carnet. We were issued a laissez passer a-like paper for free at the Damasak border post with Diffa(Niger). If you check the German automobile association website you´ll find the same information.

Enjoy your traveling

Nigeria

a few years ago, we crossed into Nigeria from Benin, customs asked for a carnet, but we managed to explain that since the borders in the European Union no longer exist, the carnet didn t exist anymore, after a while we were issued a laisser-passez, after that we even could change the date on it to prolong our stay, when leaving the country, no questions where asked,

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
